Young at Risk (YaR) designates children and adolescents who find themselves in precarious
situations due to various adverse life circumstances. These may include experiences of
physical, sexual, or psychological abuse or violence, whether occurring at home or in the
community, as well as issues such as forced labor, trafficking, school dropout, addiction, or
any other infringement of their rights as minors.
The interventions of IYSA for these at-risk youth are focused on fostering resilience,
empowering them to navigate their challenging circumstances. We hold the conviction that
children can surmount numerous adverse conditions, provided their vulnerabilities are
supported by a nurturing environment. By employing a comprehensive rights-based
approach, we strive to cultivate such supportive environments for these vulnerable children,
ensuring they have opportunities to engage in their own development.
IYSA addresses situations involving at-risk youth through a combination of curative and
preventive measures. These approaches aim to create safe and supportive environments for
vulnerable children while encouraging communities, duty bearers, and policymakers to take
responsibility for safeguarding children and advancing their rights. The strategies employed
by IYSA encompass child protection systems, home repatriation, institutional rehabilitation,
educational initiatives, skill development, and advocacy efforts. Education plays a pivotal
role in these strategies, incorporating both formal and informal methods specifically
designed for children in such circumstances.
